AUDIO & VISUAL

  • Leif Johnson’s debut feature, Mr Doom, will be released nationwide in Vue Cinemas in November 2024.

I had the pleasure of co-composing and performing the original score with composer Joshua Guy, contributing my expertise in music composition and performance. I am credited in the music department for this feature film, which has already won Best Narrative Fiction Feature at The Northampton Film Festival. During the festival, Joshua and I also took part in a Q&A panel, discussing our work on the score. The film premiered at Soho’s iconic All Is Joy cinema to rave reviews.

Mr Doom showcases my ability to craft compelling, atmospheric music that enhances storytelling, and I’m proud to be part of this exciting project.

  • I had the opportunity to contribute to the national advertising campaign for Elbow’s Audio Vertigo Arena Tour, performing as the voice-over artist for the television advertisement broadcast on Sky channels across the UK.

Elbow, known for their emotive and atmospheric sound, has long been an influential force in British music, and working on a campaign for such an iconic band was both exciting and inspiring. In addition to voicing the ad, I also engineered my own performance.

This project was in collaboration with Newd Content, a creative agency based in Soho, London, renowned for its innovative work in the entertainment industry.

  • I produced, directed, shot, and edited the striking music video Baby’s Death Wish for London-based indie band Daffodils, bringing an experimental and bold vision to life.

In just two days, we captured the raw energy of the performance on 8mm cassette film, adding an authentic, nostalgic texture to the final product. The video’s unique visual style was crafted with unconventional lighting techniques, including a series of swinging bulbs that created eerie, dynamic light effects throughout the room. This hands-on approach resulted in a visceral, one-of-a-kind aesthetic that perfectly complements the band's aesthetic.

The project was a true labor of passion, combining creative ingenuity and resourcefulness to create a video that stands out.

  • See here a selection of credits attributed to my performance, mixing, and production work.

All of these titles were engineered/co-engineered by myself. Every credit will also feature performance credits from myself.

I am credited as Mix Engineer for ‘The Bitterest Love’, ‘Daffodils (all titles)’, ‘Reduced to Rubble’, and ‘Flesh & Bones’.

  • I produced, directed, edited, engineered, and mixed a live music video shot in a warehouse in Bow, East London, during the early part of 2024.

With a limited budget, the entire shoot was completed in one production day, excluding post-production. I led a small crew of five, and we worked efficiently to capture the raw energy of the performance. Our Director of Photography, Matt Nelson, filmed the entire shoot with a single handheld camera, focusing on dynamic shots that conveyed the energy of the band.

The true challenge of this project lay in post-production, where I crafted the illusion of a multi-camera production using only the footage from the single camera. Through careful editing, I was able to seamlessly stitch together multiple angles and perspectives, giving the final video a polished, high-production feel despite the constraints.

  • This clip is from my debut short film, which won first place at the prestigious Agatha Christie Festival in 2015, held in Torbay—quite an achievement for a beginning creative.

In collaboration with Joshua Washbrook, I had the honor of writing, directing, and editing the film, which was shot at iconic locations including the Torquay Museum, Bygones Museum, and Agatha Christie’s historic house, Greenway. These locations not only provided a stunning backdrop but also infused the film with a deep sense of connection to Agatha Christie’s legacy, enriching the storytelling experience.

Winning first place at such a renowned festival was a game-changing moment in my career, affirming my passion for filmmaking and storytelling. It was an incredible recognition that pushed me to continue honing my craft.

We presented the film, with a Q&A, at the medieval Torre Abbey.

The full film will be uploaded soon.

  • VIDEO COMING SOON – I had the privilege of being the lead videographer, photographer, and runner for Northampton-based band Phantom Isle during their tour of France. The majority of the content was shot in Poitiers, where the band performed five times as part of the Les Expressifs Festival.

For this exciting project, I captured the stills on 35mm film, giving the images a timeless, authentic feel. The footage was shot using a compact, handheld self-stabilizing camera, chosen for its discretion—ensuring I could capture every moment without disrupting the band's dynamic energy. I also edited and graded the final showreel, crafting a seamless blend of visuals that reflect the intensity and excitement of the tour.
